1. Choose a venue with a lot of character of its own. Like a museum, art gallery or botanical garden
2. Rent a vaction home or private estate for a small, intimate affair
3. Choose a theme or motif and carry it through the event for a stylish look
4. Use rich colors to give a very posh and rich hue such as deep chocolate, purple or deep eggplant then pop it with softer hues to give the glow
5. Have a cocktail reception instead of the sit down dinner and put your servers in tuxedos and get good silver serving trays for the stylish hors d'oeuvres
6. Ask your venues wait staff to don white gloves while they're serving
